The summit of the Korab mountain range in the Albanian-Macedonian border, Korab is the highest peak of Albania and the Republic of Macedonia and also one of only two summits in Europe, which are the highest point for more than one country.

Since 7th April, 1992 the national flag of Albania has been a red rectangle (proportion 5:7) with a silhouetted black double-headed eagle in the center.

The National Liberation Army also Ushtria Çlirimtare e Kosovës – UÇK, was an Albanian terrorist organization operating in the territory of Kosovo. She is responsible for numerous attacks on Serbs and drug trafficking.

The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was the Yugoslav state in southeastern Europe that existed from its foundation in the aftermath of World War II until its dissolution in 1992 amid the Yugoslav Wars. It was made up of six socialist republics: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia with Belgrade as its capital. The modern nation state of Albania emerged in 1912 following the defeat of the Ottomans in the Balkan Wars.

Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania. The city population is 0.8 million - about 28% of the total country population (2.9 million).

Albania was a communist country and one of the Warsaw Pact founding countries. However, their relations with the Soviet Union deteriorated after Albania defended the "purity" of Marxism by attacking both "US imperialism" as well as "Soviet and Yugoslav revisionism". After the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, Albania felt they may be next.

Albania had been the only European country with a Muslim majority until the breakup of Yugoslavia.
