The Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km (14 mi) (2014), and covers about 81.7 km2 (31.5 square miles) (2011) in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed of four smaller glaciers converging at Concordia Place. The whole area, including other glaciers is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001

The Lech is a river in Austria and Germany. It is a right tributary of the Danube 255 kilometres (158 mi). Its source is located in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, where the river rises from lake Formarinsee in the Alps at an altitude of 1,870 metres (6,120 ft). It is not navigable, owing to its torrential character and the gravel beds which choke its channel. There are extensive views of the Lech valley from Neuschwanstein Castle, near Füssen.

The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. Climbing to the summit of all of them is regarded as a mountaineering challenge, first achieved on 30 April 1985 by Richard Bass. In 1986, the Canadian mountaineer Patrick Morrow became the first man to climb the Seven Summits in the Carstensz version

The Alpine chough breeds in mountains from Spain eastwards through southern Europe and the Alps across Central Asia and the Himalayas to western China. A high-altitude species has nested at 6,500 m, higher than any other bird species, and has been observed following mountaineers ascending Mount Everest at an altitude of 8,200 m.

The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a large, near-symmetrical, pyramidal peak in the extended Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 metres (14,692 ft) high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe.

Serfaus is a municipality in the district of Landeck in the Austrian state of Tyrol. Serfaus is also known for its small hovertrain subway system, the Dorfbahn Serfaus. With four stations and a length of 1280 m (the second-shortest underground train line in the world) it allows for a complete ban of cars within the town, while at the same time maintaining the village's attractiveness to tourists, particularly skiers.

A referendum on the introduction of women's suffrage in national elections was held in Liechtenstein on 1 July 1984. Switzerland has done it in 1971 although in Appenzell Innerrhoden canton it wasn't effectuated till 1990.

The Dufourspitze (4634 m above sea level) is the highest peak of Monte Rosa, a huge ice-covered mountain massif in the Alps. Dufourspitze is the highest mountain peak of both Switzerland and the Pennine Alps and is also the second-highest mountain of the Alps and Europe outside the Caucasus. It is located between Switzerland and Italy.

Since Middle Ages Switzerland grew from a union of 3 cantons into one of 26.

The Rhine constitutes six different country borders: between Switzerland and Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, France and Switzerland, Switzerland and Germany, France and Germany, Germany and the Netherlands.
