Surface lures are also known as top water lures, poppers and stickbaits. They float and look like fish prey that is on top of the water. They can make a popping, burbling, or even a buzzing sound. It takes a long time to learn how to use this lure effectively

Stilt fishing is a method of fishing that is uniquely Sri Lankan. The fishermen hold the stilt by one hand while seated and fish, with rod and line, in the other hand. The history of stilt fishing is not clear, though it is believed to have started shortly after World War II.

Peru has the most productive fisheries in the world thanks to the currents “Humboldt” and “El Niño”, which converge bringing nutrients-rich water to the surface. Peru's fishing sector led the world during the mid-1960s. The production since then has fluctuated radically because of overfishing. Today, Peru's fishing industry is still the second largest in the world.

China, with one-fifth of the world's population, accounts for one-third of the world's reported fish production and two-thirds of the worlds reported aquaculture production. The Chinese fishing fleet has access to numerous distant fishing grounds through agreements with foreign countries. That includes West African coast and North and South Pacific.

In the 1990s several cod stocks collapsed due to overfishing. With the large predatory fish removed, their prey have undergone population explosions, and the capture of lobster has tripled since 1970.
