The Battle of Mohács was one of the most consequential battles in Central European history. It was fought on 29 August 1526 near Mohács, Kingdom of Hungary, between the forces of the Kingdom of Hungary, led by Louis II, and those of the Ottoman Empire, led by Suleiman the Magnificent. The Ottoman victory led to the partition of Hungary for several centuries between the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, and the Principality of Transylvania. The Battle of Mohács marked the end of the Middle Ages in Hungary.

Esztergom is a city in northern Hungary, 46 kilometres (29 miles) northwest of the capital Budapest. Esztergom was the capital of Hungary from the 10th till the mid-13th century when King Béla IV of Hungary moved the royal seat to Buda.

Szaloncukor is a type of sweet traditionally associated with Christmas in Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. It is usually made of fondant, covered by chocolate and wrapped in shiny coloured foil, then hung on the Christmas tree as decoration. The name comes from the German-Austrian Salonzuckerl, this is why the original name was szalonczukkedli.

Kékes is Hungary's highest mountain, at 1,015 metres (3,330 ft) above sea level. It is Hungary's third most popular tourist attraction, after Lake Balaton and the Danube, and has a number of hotels and skiing pistes. The name Kékes is derived from the mountain's often bluish colour.

The Shoes on the Danube Bank is a memorial in Budapest, Hungary conceived by film director Can Togay to honour the Jews who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. It represents their shoes left behind on the bank.

Sándor Ferenczi was a Hungarian psychoanalyst, a key theorist of the psychoanalytic school and a close associate of Sigmund Freud. His willingness to work with the most difficult of patients led him to develop a theory of more active intervention, rather than Freud's "classical" method of neutral interpretation.

The Komondor is a large, white-coloured Hungarian breed of livestock guardian dog with a long, corded coat. It was brought to Europe by the Cumans and first mentioned in a Hungarian codex from 1544. The Komondor breed has been declared one of Hungary’s national treasures, to be preserved and protected from modification.

Tokaji is the name of the wines from the Tokaj wine region in Hungary or the adjoining Tokaj wine region in Slovakia.

Puttonyos is the unit given to denote the level of sugar and hence the sweetness of Hungarian dessert wine, called Tokaji (or tokay). It is traditionally measured by the number of hods of sweet botrytised or nobly rotted grapes (known as Aszú) added to a barrel of wine, but is now measured in grams of residual sugar. The puttony was actually the 25 kg basket or hod of Aszú grapes, and the more added to the barrel of wine, the sweeter the eventual wine. Measurement goes from 3 to 6 Puttonyos. A Tokaji made entirely from Aszú grapes is known as Eszencia.

Directly after the end of WWII, Hungary went through the most severe known incident of inflation ever recorded, peaking at 1.3 × 10^16 percent per month (prices doubled every 15 hours). When the pengő was replaced in August 1946 by the forint, four hundred octillion pengő became 1 forint.
