Lake Taupo is a lake in the North Island of New Zealand. It is in the caldera of the Taupo Volcano. With a surface area of 616 square kilometres (238 sq mi), it is the largest lake by surface area in New Zealand.

Lake Chagan, Kazakhstan, is a lake created by the Chagan nuclear test fired on January 15, 1965, part of the Nuclear Explosions for the National Economy. A 140 kiloton device was placed in a 178-metre (584 ft) deep hole in the dry bed of the Chagan River. The blast created a crater 400 m (1,300 ft) across and 100 m (330 ft) deep with a lip height of 20 to 38 m (66 to 125 ft).; it is often referred to as "Atomic Lake".

The largest island in a lake on an island is Pulau Samosir in Danau Toba on Sumatra. Samosir in Lake Toba, Indonesia – 630 km2 (240 sq mi), was originally formed as a peninsula; its current island status, however, is only through its deliberate separation from the mainland by a canal.

The largest lake in Europe is Lake Ladoga which is 17,700 km2. It is also the 14th largest freshwater lake in the world by area. Lake Ladoga is located in the outskirts of St. Petersburg; between the republic of Karelia and Leningrad Oblast in Russia. It has 660 islands which cover an area of 435 km2.

The deepest lake in the United States is Crater Lake, a volcanic crater in southern Oregon. Its deepest measured depth is 1,949 feet (594 meters). It is the ninth-deepest lake in the world. It is an amazing lake because no rivers flow into it or out of it. The water level in the lake is a balance between rainfall, groundwater flow and evaporation.The lake was formed between 6,000 and 8,000 years ago.

Sun Island, Bolivia. The beautiful Sun Island (known to its early inhabitants as Titi Khar'ka, the 'rock of the puma' from which Lake Titicaca gets its name) is believed to be the birthplace of the Inca Empire.

The Tabqa Dam is an earthen dam on the Euphrates, located 40 kilometres (25 mi) upstream from the city of Raqqa in Raqqa Governorate, Syria. The dam is 60 metres (200 ft) high and 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) long and is the largest dam in Syria. The dam was originally built to generate hydroelectric power, as well as irrigate lands on both sides of the Euphrates.

Green Lake with a surface area of 0.8 hectares and a maximum depth of 6 metres, it was the largest natural freshwater lake in the Hawaiian Islands. On June 2, 2018, the lake was destroyed when lava flows from Kīlauea's lower Puna eruption boiled it away and completely filled the entire basin

With a surface area of 5,655 km2, Vänern is also the largest lake in the European Union and the third-largest lake entirely in Europe after Ladoga and Onega in Russia.

Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake. It is the second oldest freshwater lake in the world, the second largest by volume, and the second deepest, in all cases after Lake Baikal in Siberia. It is also the world's longest freshwater lake, and the longest of any kind.
