Prohibition questions

The Thompson submachine gun is an American submachine gun, invented by John T. Thompson in 1918, that became infamous during the Prohibition era. It was a common sight in the media of the time, being used by both law enforcement officers and criminals.

Of the 27 ratified amendments to Constitution of the USA, only one has been repealed. This was the 18th amendment of 1917 that had introduced the American prohibition. It was repealed in 1933.

Capone settled in Chicago to take over the Johnny Torrio’s business dealing with outlawed liquor. Within 3 years, Capone had nearly 700 men at his disposal. By the middle of the decade, he had gained complete control of the suburb Cicero, and had installed his own Mayor in office.

In the early twentieth century, much of the impetus for the prohibition movement in the Nordic countries and North America came from moralistic convictions of pietistic Protestants. Nordic countries had started prohibition before the United States did. Between 1915-1919, laws were passed in Norway, Iceland and Finland.
