Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author, and manga artist. A co-founder of Studio Ghibli, a film and animation studio, he has attained international acclaim as a masterful storyteller and as a maker of anime feature films, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest animation directors.

Im Jahr 2003 wurde ihm für seinen Film Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland der Oscar verliehen; seine Filme Das wandelnde Schloss (2004) und Wie der Wind sich hebt (2013) waren für den Oscar nominiert. Das von ihm und Isao Takahata 1985 gegründete Studio Ghibli ist weltweit bekannt und Karrieresprungbrett für einige andere Anime-Künstler.
