Hagia Sophia was built during the reign of...

Constantine I The Great
Heraclius I
Theodosius I the Great
Justinian I
The current building was originally constructed as a church between 532 and 537 under the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, and was the third Church of the Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) to occupy the site. The prior one was destroyed by rioters in the Nika Revolt. There are also Byzantine Churches of Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki and Trapezounta (now Trebzon).
