Michael Jordan wore only jersey number 23 and 45 in his career but once he started with 12. Why?

In 1990 Bulls were taking on Orlando Magic. Short before the start of the game it turns out that Michael's jersey was stolen. It made him to start with the only spare jersey available, numer 12 with no name on the back. Michael still managed to shot 49 point that game but his team lost 135-129 anyway.
