Biodiesel is an alternative fuel similar to conventional or ‘fossil’ diesel. The largest possible source of suitable oil comes from oil crops such as rapeseed, palm or soybean. The process used to convert these oils to Biodiesel is called transesterification.

Biodiesel / biopaliwo / to przetworzony chemicznie olej roślinny, np. rzepakowy stosowany do silników wysokoprężnych. Biodiesel ma o wiele lepsze własności smarne niż tradycyjny olej napędowy oraz przedłuża istotnie żywotność silnika. W Polsce produkcję biopaliw jako pierwsza uruchomiła Rafineria Trzebinia.
