What is the longest animal on Earth?
giant squid
blue whale
giant anaconda
Lineus longissimus
The largest nemertean and possibly the longest animal is the bootlace worm, Lineus longissimus. A specimen found washed ashore on a beach in St. Andrews, Scotland in 1864 was recorded at a length of 55 m (180 ft). This thing makes the blue whale seem short by comparison. Its mucus is highly toxic.
