Alioth is (despite being designated 'epsilon') the brightest star in the constellation of Ursa Major, and at magnitude 1.76 is the thirty-first-brightest star in the sky. Historically, the star was frequently used in celestial navigation in the maritime trade, because it is listed as one of the 57 navigational stars.

Alioth ist der Eigenname des Sterns Epsilon Ursae Maioris im Sternbild Großer Bär. Alioth besitzt eine scheinbare Helligkeit von 1,8 mag und ist ca. 83 Lichtjahre entfernt. Er ist geringfügig heller als Dubhe und Alkaid und damit der hellste Stern im Sternbild.
