This is the flag of the country often called by the acronym FYROM. What does the "Y" stand for?

This is a flag of F.Y.R. Macedonia (full name is: Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). F.Y.R. Macedonia was one of the republics of the former country Yugoslavia. They still have an issue with their neighbours Greece about the name of the country because Macedonia is a historic province in the north of Greece.
