The gaur, also called the Indian bison, is the largest extant bovine native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Jars' are the tallest of wild cattle species and among the largest living land animals. Only elephants, rhinos, the hippopotamus and the giraffe grow heavier.

Gaur (Bos gaurus) jest największym gatunkiem dzikiego bydła, większym niż bizon amerykański czy bawół indyjski (arni). Największe populacje są spotykane współcześnie w Indiach. Fałd luźnej skóry zwisający na spodniej stronie szyi umożliwia odprowadzanie nadmiaru ciepła z organizmu. Udomowioną formą gaura jest gajal.

Der in Süd- und Südostasien verbreitete Gaur ist der größte lebende Vertreter der Rinder. In Form des Gayals ist er von Menschen domestiziert worden.Ein Gaurbulle erreicht eine Kopfrumpflänge von 3,30 m, eine Körperhöhe von 2,20 m und ein Gewicht von über einer Tonne.
