Singapur to miasto-państwo położone w pobliżu południowego krańca Półwyspu Malajskiego. Singapur uzyskał niepodległość 9 sierpnia 1965 roku. Nazwa Singapur pochodzi od dwóch sanskryckich słów: singa (lew) i pura (miasto), stąd niekiedy stosowana nazwa Miasto Lwa.
