Samsung (Korea). Samsung C&T Corporation (Construction and Trade), established in 1938, is the origin of Samsung Group. Samsung C&T was the primary contractor of 3 worlds tallest skyscrapers: Burj Khalifa, Petronas Twin Towers and Taipei 101.

It was built quickly and under budget. The Empire State Building took only one year and 45 days to build, or 7 million man-hours. To this day, this is a record for a skyscraper of its height. Due to reduced costs during the Depression, the final costs totalled only $24.7 million instead of the estimated $43 million.

London. The Metropolitan Railway opened on 10 January 1863, and was carrying over 26,000 passengers a day within a few months of opening. The early lines were built by various private companies, and became integrated in 1933.

Iron and coal. Carbon steel, composed simply of iron and carbon, accounts for 90% of steel production. Low alloy steel is alloyed with other elements, usually molybdenum, manganese, chromium, or nickel, in amounts of up to 10% by weight to improve the hardenability of thick sections.
