The classic video game Super Mario Bros. has more than a few similarities to the iconic novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland including magic mushrooms, anthropomorphic animals, mysterious portals and passageways, and an all around sort of suspension of reality as we know it that marks both trips through the game and the novel. The comparison isn’t merely the parlor talk of video game geeks though, as Super Mario Bros. creator Miyamoto himself cited the influence of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in an interview with Business Week magazine.

Participants in the Global Game Jam are of all skill levels and in various fields. Everyone from professional game developers to educators to artists and designers is welcome to participate. Once the jam begins, participants come up with game ideas, before pitching those ideas to each other and forming teams to work together on a project.

"Super Mario Bros.," was released in Japan on September 13, 1985. Super Mario Bros. is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games of all time, with praise going towards its precise controls. It has sold over 40 million physical copies, also making it one of the bestselling games of all time.

The game mechanics include selecting the best political system for the player's country. The game was banned in Thailand by the National Council for Peace and Order. The country's military junta government said that the game's storyline "might affect peace and order in the country."
