Wise Men from the East appear in the Gospel of Saint Matthew. The Gospel does not give them numbers or names. However, it was customary to determine their number to 3: Casper, Melchior and Balthasar.

New Testament has been written in common Greek of the first century known as koine, a language different than either classical Ancient Greek and modern Greek language. At the time, koine was a lingua Franca of the Eastern Mediterranean basin.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judah which was the place of David and his family. Joseph and Mary came from Nazareth to be registered when Jesus was born. Later, He followed his parents to Nazareth in Galilee where he grew up. Jesus' childhood home is identified in the gospels of Luke and Matthew as the town of Nazareth in Galilee, where he lived with his family.

John the Baptist was sentenced to death and subsequently beheaded by Herod Antipas sometime between 28 and 36 AD after John rebuked him for divorcing his wife, Phasaelis, and unlawfully taking Herodias, the wife of his brother Herod Philip I.
