The Guiana Space Centre is a French and European spaceport near Kourou in French Guiana since 1968. The location was chosen as it fulfils the two major geographical requirements of such a site: it is quite close to the equator, so that the spinning earth can impart some extra velocity to the rockets for free when launched eastward, and it has open sea to the east, so that lower stages of rockets and debris from launch failures cannot fall on human habitations.

Gujańskie Centrum Kosmiczne położone jest w pobliżu Kourou w Gujanie Francuskiej. Od 1968 stanowi ono główny kosmodrom Francji oraz Europejskiej Agencji Kosmicznej. Miejsce to zostało wybrane ze względu na odludne otoczenie i bliskość równika - co pozwala nadać rakiecie nieco większą prędkość na skutek ruchu obrotowego Ziemi.

Raumfahrtzentrum Guayana, bei Kourou in Französisch-Guayana ist ein Weltraumbahnhof, von dem seit 1979 die Ariane-Raketen des europäischen Raumtransportunternehmens Arianespace starten. Das CSG ist einer der am günstigsten gelegenen Startplätze der Welt. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist des Standorts. Außerdem besteht keine Gefahr von Erdbeben oder tropischen Wirbelstürmen.
