Singing dog from New Guinea is closely related to the dingo. The race was discovered by Ellis Troughton in 1957. The name of the dogs derives from the distinctive sound of a long, similar sound, but of a higher and modulated tone. They also have the ability to walk through trees, which are owed to the special construction of joints of all the feet, allowing for bending the fingers much more than other dogs.

Der Neuguinea Dingo hat ein markantes schreiartiges Geheul, das durch einen scharfen Anstieg in der Tonhöhe am Anfang und sehr hohen Frequenzen am Ende charakterisiert ist. Tim Flannery bezeichnete das Geheul dieser Hunde während seiner Reisen in Neuguinea als „jodelartig“.
