King cobra's diet consists primarily of other snakes, including rat snakes, small pythons, and even other venomous snakes such as various members of the true cobras and the krait. When food is scarce, it also feeds on other small vertebrates, such as lizards, birds, and rodents.

Kobra królewska żywi się przede wszystkim innymi wężami. Potrafi zjeść nawet węże własnego gatunku. Jeżeli pożywienie jest trudno dostępne, je także inne zwierzęta np. szczury, myszy, ptaki i jaszczurki.

Die Nahrung besteht offenbar ausschließlich aus Schlangen und Echsen, dabei werden sowohl ungiftige als auch giftige Schlangen erbeutet. Die Beute wird nach dem Biss festgehalten, bis sie tot oder zumindest bewegungsunfähig ist; dies kann 10–30 min dauern.
