According to the United Nations, the Sub-Saharan Africa consists of all African countries that are fully or partially located south of the Sahara. It contrasts with North Africa, whose territories are part of the League of Arab states within the Arab world. Somalia, Djibouti, Comoros and Mauritania are geographically in Sub-Saharan Africa, but are likewise Arab states and part of the Arab world.

Czarna Afryka (także: Afryka Subsaharyjska) to nazwa stosowana dla określenia części Afryki na południe od Sahary, zamieszkanej w większości przez ludność czarnoskórą. To jeden ze słabiej rozwiniętych gospodarczo regionów świata. Problemem są choroby, m.in. malaria i AIDS, konflikty zbrojne oraz klimat.

Schwarzafrika ist eine veraltete Bezeichnung für den geographisch südlich der Sahara gelegenen Teil des afrikanischen Kontinents. Die Grenze geht in etwa am nördlichsten Punkt des Niger von West nach Ost fast parallel zum Equator entlang.
