Tiziano Vicelli, known in English as Titian, was the most important member of the 16-th century Venetian school, recognized by his contemporaries as "The Sun Amidst Small Stars". At the end of his long life, he famously said: "I'm finally beginning to learn how to paint".

Tiziano Vicelli, znany u nas jako Tycjan, był najważniejszą postacią szesnastowiecznej szkoły malarstwa weneckiego. Już współcześni nazywali go "słońcem pośród gwiazdek". W swojej późnej starości wygłosił słynne zdanie: "Powoli zaczynam uczyć się, jak należy malować".

Tizian (eigentlich Tiziano Vecellio gilt als der führende Vertreter der venezianischen Malerei des 16. Jahrhunderts und einer der Hauptmeister der italienischen Hochrenaissance. Zu Lebzeiten wurde er oft nach seinem Geburtsort Da Cadore genannt.
