The Magdalena River is the principal river of Colombia, flowing northward about 1,528 kilometres through the western half of the country. It takes its name from the biblical figure Mary Magdalene. There are longer rivers in Colombia like Orinoco, Putamayo or Amazon, but they are all shared with other countries.
