Where does the name of Rottweiler breed come from?

the city of Rottweil
dog's red tongue
dog's ability to dig for roots
dog's ability to hunt for rats
The Rottweiler is one of the oldest of herding breeds. It is likely that the Rottweiler is a descendant of ancient Roman drover dogs, brought into modern day Germany by Roman legions. During the Middle Ages, the dogs were known as "Rottweil butchers' dogs" (German: Rottweiler Metzgerhund) because they were used to herd livestock and pull carts laden with butchered meat and other products to market.
