The beer is named after the Slavic, Moravian-prominent god Radegast. His sacred, temple animal was the horse, In 1068 Burchard, the Bishop of Halberstadt, invaded the country of the Slavic Lutici tribes. His forces razed the pagan temple, and the bishop returned to Saxony riding the sacred black horse.
