Which European capital lies on the Dambovita river?
Chisinau
Skopje
Sarajevo
Bucharest
The Dâmbovița is a river in Romania, which passes through Bucharest. The city's folklore refers to the waters of the Dâmbovița as "sweet", "light and clean". However, toward the end of the 18th century, as the population of Bucharest increased, the river ceased to be so clean, hence the need of the aqueducts to bring clean water. The earliest aqueducts with public fountains were built during the rule of Prince Alexander Ypsilantis.
