Sunflowers can be used to extract toxic ingredients from the soil, such as lead, arsenic and uranium. They are also used to neutralize radionuclides and other toxic ingredients and harmful bacteria from water. They were used to remove radioactive isotopes after the Chernobyl disaster and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
