Leonardo of Pisa, also known as Leonardo Fibonacci, Leonardo Pisano Bigollo. His 1202 book Liber Abaci introduced the sequence to Western European mathematics, although the sequence had been described earlier as Virahanka numbers in Indian mathematics.
