Sport of Canada questions

The trophy is named for Lord Stanley of Preston, a Governor General of Canada, who supported and promoted ice hockey. He awarded the first cup (then named Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup) to Canada's top-ranking amateur ice hockey club in 1893.

The basketball game was created in 1891 by James Naismith, a physical education professor at the Springfield College. His aim was to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track (see original photo). Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball.

Lennox Lewis holds dual British and Canadian citizenship. As an amateur he won gold representing Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games. Having achieved that goal, Lewis declared himself a professional boxer and moved back to his native England, which he had left at the age of 12.
