The trophy is named for Lord Stanley of Preston, a Governor General of Canada, who supported and promoted ice hockey. He awarded the first cup (then named Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup) to Canada's top-ranking amateur ice hockey club in 1893.

The World Series is the annual championship series of North American-based Major League Baseball (MLB), played since 1903 between the American League (AL) champion team and the National League (NL) champion. The New York Yankees have won it 27 times, while the next team - St. Louis Cardinals - 11 times.

The basketball game was created in 1891 by James Naismith, a physical education professor at the Springfield College. His aim was to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track (see original photo). Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball.

The circuit is 2,5 mile long, so it takes 200 laps to complete the 500 mile race.

Lennox Lewis holds dual British and Canadian citizenship. As an amateur he won gold representing Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games. Having achieved that goal, Lewis declared himself a professional boxer and moved back to his native England, which he had left at the age of 12.

The tradition of drinking milk was founded in 1933. Since 1956, only one driver has broken it: In 1993, Emerson Fittipaldi drank a celebratory bottle of orange juice. He owned several orange groves in Sao Paolo, and wanted to promote the citrus industry.
