The summit of the Korab mountain range in the Albanian-Macedonian border, Korab is the highest peak of Albania and the Republic of Macedonia and also one of only two summits in Europe, which are the highest point for more than one country.

The modern nation state of Albania emerged in 1912 following the defeat of the Ottomans in the Balkan Wars.

Albania had been the only European country with a Muslim majority until the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Since 7th April, 1992 the national flag of Albania has been a red rectangle (proportion 5:7) with a silhouetted black double-headed eagle in the center.

Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania. The city population is 0.8 million - about 28% of the total country population (2.9 million).
