Even though she was mostly self-taught, she made important contributions to two areas of astronomy, lunar nomenclature and variable stars. In 1916, she was one of the first four women admitted to the Royal Astronomical Society in recognition of her work.The work is titled "Named Lunar Formation" and is the official catalog of the names of our satellite.

1919 wurde die IAU gegründet, die beauftragte, die damals gängigen chaotischen Fachbezeichnungen zu normieren. Die Arbeit wurde zumeist von Mary Blagg durchgeführt und der Bericht von ihr und Muller mit dem Namen Named Lunar Formations im Jahre 1935 war die erste systematische Auflistung der Mond-Fachbegriffe. Diese Arbeiten wurden von der IAU angepasst und sind heute anerkannte Quellen für die den Mond betreffenden Fachbegriffe.
