In which country is the Potala Palace?
Potala Palace was the seat of the nominal rulers of Tibet until 1959, when the Dalai Lama XIV fled from Tibet as a result of a failed uprising. It is located in the capital of Tibet, Lhasa, at an altitude of about 3,700 m. It is the highest situated palace in the world. The name '' Potala '' probably comes from the holy mountain of Tibetan Buddhism, Putuo in southern China, the mythical residence of Bodhisattva Chenrezig. Tibetans think that Potala is the work of the gods, and people would never be able to bring such a magnificent building. According to legend, it was built in just one day.
