The arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche are any large species of bonytongue in the genus Arapaima native to the Amazon and Essequibo basins of South America. Genus Arapaima is the type genus of the family Arapaimidae. They are among the world's largest freshwater fish, reaching as much as 3 m (9.8 ft).

Arapaima jest największą współcześnie żyjącą rybą występującą wyłącznie w wodzie słodkiej. Zasiedla muliste wody Amazonki, Orinoko.Osiąga do 200 kg. wagi i mierzy do 3 metrów długości (podobno rekordowe osobniki osiągają do 450 cm).

Arapaima ist eine Süßwasserfischgattung aus der Ordnung der Knochenzünglerartigen. Arapaima bedeutet „Roter Fisch“ in den Tupí-Guaraní-Sprachen. Arapaimas gehören zu den größten Süßwasserfischen der Welt. Sie können über zwei Meter lang werden und ein Gewicht von über 130 kg erreichen.
