The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were built for Median wife of king Nebuchadnezzar II queen Amytis, because she missed the green hills and valleys of her homeland. The construction of the Hanging Gardens has also been attributed to the legendary queen Semiramis, who supposedly ruled Babylon in the 9th century BC, and they have been called the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis as an alternate name.

The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient Greek analogue computer and orrery used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses for calendar and astrological purposes decades in advance. It could also be used to track the four-year cycle of athletic games which was similar to an Olympiad, the cycle of the ancient Olympic Games.

Acupuncture may have been practiced during the Neolithic era, near the end of the stone age, using sharpened stones called Bian shi. Many Chinese texts from later eras refer to sharp stones called "plen", which means "stone probe", that may have been used for acupuncture purposes.

In Greek mythology, the Hesperides are the nymphs of evening and golden light of sunset, who were the "Daughters of the Evening" or "Nymphs of the West". The Hesperides guarded a miracle tree with golden apples in a beautiful garden, which Gaia of Hera used to grow her wedding to Zeus. The apples gave the gods eternal youth.

In Ancient Greek myths, Aphrodite was born and risen from the sea, created from parts of Ouranos when the Titans overthrew him. She is the goddess of love and beauty, and has a son named Eros.
