Desert rose is the col­lo­qui­al name given to rosette for­ma­tions of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte which contain abundant included sand grains. Desert roses occur when the crystals form in arid sandy con­di­tion­s, such as the evap­o­ra­tion of a shallow salt basin.
