Thimphu is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan. The ancient capital city of Punakha was replaced as capital by Thimphu in 1955, and in 1961 Thimphu was declared as the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan by His Majesty the 3rd Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. Climbing to the summit of all of them is regarded as a mountaineering challenge, first achieved on 30 April 1985 by Richard Bass. In 1986, the Canadian mountaineer Patrick Morrow became the first man to climb the Seven Summits in the Carstensz version

The Tibetan flag, also known as the "snow lion flag"is the national flag of Tibet, adopted by the 13th Dalai Lama in 1916. Banned by the Chinese government since 1959, today the flag is used by the Tibetan Government in Exile, based in Dharamshala, India.

The first winter ascent of Mount Everest on 17 February 1980 was also the first winter summit of any of the world's fourteen 8000 metre peaks. After 1980 Poles did nine more first winter ascents on 8000 metre peaks, one of which was shared with an Italian climber Simone Moro. Only K2 remain unconquered in winter conditions.

All 14 of the world's 8000-meter peaks are located in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges in Asia.

K2 is known as the Savage Mountain due to the extreme difficulty of ascent. It has the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousanders. With around 300 successful summits and 77 fatalities, about one person dies on the mountain for every four who summit.[5] It is more difficult and hazardous to reach the peak of K2 from the Chinese side, so it is usually climbed from the Pakistani side.

Mount Everest, known in Nepali as Sagarmāthā and in Tibetan as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The international border between China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal runs across its summit point.

The Annapurna peaks are among the world's most dangerous mountains to climb, although in more recent history, using only figures from 1990 and after, Kangchenjunga has a higher fatality rate. By March 2012, there had been 191 summit ascents of Annapurna I Main, and 61 climbing fatalities on the mountain. This fatality-to-summit ratio (32%) is the highest of any of the eight-thousanders. On October 2014, at least 43 people were killed as a result of snowstorms and avalanches on and around Annapurna, in the Nepal's worst ever trekking disaster.

On February 17, 1980, Leszek Cichy and Krzysztof Wielicki, as the first alpinists in history, won the highest mountain in the world in winter - Mount Everest (8850 m). A 20-person, national expedition was led by the precursor of the winter himalism, Andrzej Zawada.

Mount Kangchenjunga lies about 125 km (78 mi) east-south-east of Mount Everest. It is the second highest mountain of the Himalayas. Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world, and lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim, India. It rises with an elevation of 8,586 m (28,169 ft) in a section of the Himalayas called Kangchenjunga
